We are honored to announce LatinDisplay 2014 to be held at Banco Nacional de Desenvolvimento Econômico e Social (BNDES), in Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil, in November 10th to 12th, 2014. LatinDisplay 2014 aims to stimulate new research and business relationships and to encourage those new to the field. For that it is attracting experts from all over the world to present the latest advances in displays and related technologies and to discuss challenges and opportunities for newcomers like Brazil and Latin America countries.
LatinDisplay 2014 will provide the participants with great opportunities to experience and discuss state-of-the-art displays as well as exciting new applications. Other technologies that will be discussed, due to their direct relationship to displays, are touch screens and advanced interfaces (gestural, multimodal, adaptive, etc.), image processing, lighting (fluorescent lamps, LEDs and OLEDs), solar panels, organic electronics, batteries, nanotechnology, etc.
The conference will also provide an update on the status of Brazil in the development of displays and related technologies, as well as the identification of investment opportunities in Brazil. The main challenges for technology and industrial policy will be addressed.
An initiative of Associação Brasileira de Informática (ABINFO), LatinDisplay 2014 is also organized by the Society for Information Display (SID), Centro de Tecnologia da Informação Renato Archer (CTI) and Banco Nacional de Desenvolvimento Econômico e Social (BNDES) being sponsored by the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento CientÃfico e Tecnológico – CNPq), Coordination of Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de NÃvel Superior - Capes), foundation of the MInistry of Education (Ministério de Educação – MEC) and Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (Ministério de Ciência, Tecnologia e Inovação – MCTI).

The Program Committee and the Organizing Committee of LatinDisplay 2014 are doing their best to ensure it will be a successful and rewarding conference for all participants. The Program Committee is being chaired by Dr. Adi Abileah and co-chaired by Dr Daniel den Engelson, that are putting in a great effort to make LatinDisplay 2014 a very productive and enjoyable event.
Dr. Adi Abileah is at Adi Display Consulting since he retired from Planar Systems (Beaverton, Oregon), where he was the Chief Scientist at the Technology Group for many years. Dr. Adi is a Fellow of SID and got the SID Otto Schade Prize in 2012. He co-chaired several SID Conferences, including LatinDisplays for which he got a SID Presidential Citation Award in 2010.
Daniel den Engelsen is a Senior Scientist at ABINFO and a Visiting Scientist at CTI Renato Archer, in Campinas (Brazil), and an Associate Professor at Brunel University, in London (UK), since his retirement from Philips Display Components, where he has been the Director of R&D for many years. Dr. Daniel chaired and co-chaired several LatinDisplays for which he got SID Presidential Citation Awards in 2008 and in 2011.
Both, Dr. Adi Abileah and Dr. Daniel den Engelsen are putting in a great effort to make LatinDisplay 2014 the most productive and enjoyable event yet.
We welcome representatives of companies, funding agencies and government, professors and students from universities and technical schools, specialists and colleagues from scientific and industrial laboratories.
We expect that, as in previous years, LatinDisplay 2014 will be a forum for debate and cooperation amongst public entities, scientific and technology institutions as well as private companies from all over the world. Our ultimate goal is to deepen the understanding of these fields of knowledge and continue to foster scientific, technological and business connections and cooperation.
